It’s that time of year again, spring. This only means one thing…..COCKTAILS. This is the time of year where those fruity, sweet, sour and sexy looking cocktails first make an appearance. Served in elegant long gated glasses some with a sweet and sour crystal rim, this is one type of drink which will be in every girl’s hand.
Plateau – Bar& Restaurant
This elegant bar and restaurant establishment situated in Canary Wharf offers a view like no other in London, from fine dining to holding parties or even indulging in exquisite cocktails at the bar this place is worth a visit.
Opt to indulge in some seasonal cocktails made by Plateau’s mixologists.
Mixologist Diego Lanza works at Plateau Bar, his interest for cocktails first stirred him when he first came to London and visited ‘Nightjar’ in Old Street. Once seeing the mixologist in action this is what inspired him to start training at the age of 22.
Diego Lanza said: ‘The first ever cocktail I’ve ever made is called ‘Jeux d’Amour’ it’s a rum base cocktail. The one cocktail that is quite popular here at Plateau is the Hendricks.’

The new powdered alcohol has now ventured into the drinks scene this coming month and it has everybody talking about it. The powdered substance can be added to any drink or water to make it an alcoholic beverage.
Mr Lanza continued and said: ‘I think powdered alcohol can be quite dangerous especially for the youngsters. People can make cocktails on their own with or without powdered alcohol, but in the end if you want great drinks you go to your favourite bartender, even if you can mix at home.’
Patrycja Chmielewska, 22, student from London said: ‘I like the fact that cocktails make an appearance in the Spring/Summer people tend to enjoy them more when going out. My favourite all time cocktail is Mojito; it’s refreshing and always reminds me of those summer nights.
Miss Chmielewska continued and said: ‘It’s an unnecessary stimulant, which should not have come out. This will only encourage people (especially teenagers) to be persuaded to use it. It promotes alcohol and makes the use of it easier in terms of age and consumption.’
Cocktail recipes suggested by Diego Lanza
Jeux d’ Amour
- 40ml white rum
- 50ml Fresh grapefruit juice
- 15 ml St German Liquer
- 5ml Elderflower cordial
- Shake and serve over ice with dehydrated grapefruit and fresh raspberries spraying gold shimmer on top
Spicy Whisky Sour
- 60ml Bourbon whiskey
- 1 whole quail egg
- 25ml fresh lemon juice
- 12.5ml muscovado sugar syrup
- Shake and serve on ice in an old fashioned glass. Grate Tonka bean on top and make brulee effect with the help of a blow torch, and finish off with a lemon twist and cherry for garnish
- 50ml vodka
- 20ml Goji Liqueir
- 10ml Vanilla syrup
- Fresh Pinapple
- Fresh Basil
- Shake and serve straight up in a chilled coup with a dehydrated pineapple wheel and raspberry crumble
Healthy Soul- Mocktail
- 120ml Fresh apple juice
- Fresh mint and ginger with a hint of lime juice and Elderflower cordial
- Shake and serve over ice in a cognac glass, garnish with fresh mint, sprigs of fresh ginger sticks.
